today i have been taking photos of my beautiful old remington portable typewriter dated 15.9.30. it belonged to my great aunt. i remember when my grandfather gave it to me...i was about 1o and he had painted many of the levers and knobs with different coloured varnish so i could work out how to use it. the ribbon is almost out of ink now and i am not sure how to re -ink it...
it is one of my most favourite things not only for it's classic design but for the family history attached to it.... my aunt used it daily in her work. i am happy to say that it has never turned into a 'bug' ... if you have seen this film then you will know what i mean...
i love that you can see the upper and lower case letters on the metal typebars...it has such personality and i love the metal click click of the keys punching the paper. i have typed a few words for my request...
today i met with a friend for coffee (hi julie) and we were discusing our favourite words and how creatively an individual word can be interpreted in many different ways... i have seen how some bloggers have used words in 'wordplay' and find it fascinating and we thought that collecting words would be a good starting point for a joint creative exploration...if you would like to help please leave a comment including your favourite word or words.. they can be descriptive words , words that inspire you or just banal words that you like... not too rude though please although florence you already know my favourite rude word! we are not sure exactly what we will do with them yet but i will keep you posted as our ideas develop.
we hope you would like to share some of your favourite words... you don't need to explain why you like them, though if you would like to that would be great also... thank you and happy friday!
Hi Ginny. My diughter, Lauren, and I are constantly inspired by words and both use a lot of text in our work, so this idea of yours sounds good to me. Favourite words always disappear when you try to think of them, but I love tranquil, serene...gone blank! x

HI Ginny,
I would really love an old typewriter, my Dad gave me one when I was younger from an company that he bought that was very old fashioned. I don't know what happened to it though.
I like the word 'Flow'!

I'm often inspired by words or combinations of words but I'm not sure I have a favourite. Your typewriter is beautiful.

What a fabulous typewriter! I don't have any favourite words, but how about blossom, shiny or flutter? You've probably seen on my blog that I'm taking part in a wordplay challenge, so I'll be really interested to see what you'll be doing with your words!
Have a great weekend!

samphire, escutcheon, ... I have more but mind has gone blank too, will email you if I think of them. You won't be surprised when I say I was thinking of doing something like this too recently - as our minds often seem to cross! I'm sure somewhere I have a list started of favourite words, in a book, with favourite names, songs - but now I can't remember where. Drove past one of my favourite placenames yesterday 'Findo Gask' (someone has named their band unfortunately I wanted him to be a character oneday. My current is Pinkie Cleugh - maybe he'll make it instead! Merthyr Tydfil is another - and rather like Myrtle! That is a lovely typewriter - I used to bash out novels about horses on my friends mum's t-writer - just loved playing on them!! xx

What a beautiful typewriter! Words - they have such power don't they, power to shape our day, our thoughts, our actions. Some favourites of mine: flourish, balance, peace, breath, giggle, grace, blossom. What are yours?
Happy weekend to you all!

What a beautiful heirloom and lovely photos as always. I love the word oak, for me it conjures up so many things, trees, green, nature, wisdom, strength, autumn!. It's interesting how one word can sum up so much!

My parents bought me a portable Smith Corona typewriter in a travel case when I was a kid. I remember the black/red ribbon and the metal keys getting bent on occasions! I went on to learn how to touch-type at school using the qwerty keyboard. No photocopiers in those days, we had to use carbon paper, and if a mistake was made it had to be erased with a pencil rubber or with tippex paper! x

LOVELY old Remington, Ginny...I like old typewriters too. Yours is a treasure. Fun word game here... One of my favorite words is DREAM... simple, but very evocative and holds a lot. :o) Happy Summer Days ((HUGS))

Oh words!
Now then.... I am very fond of, in no particular order:
splendid; super; exciting; making ....ness out of any word, as in yellow-ness which you've already encountered! Other words such as: prune; and I love the name Bertie; moon; mingle; and of course, abundance!
Well, could go on indefinitely, but these are the ones which popped into my head just now.
Happy weekend
