this week i tidied my creative space..
my space is half way up the garden... and in a building which was once used to store all our junk. when alice and i moved out of our flour loft studio it pushed me to get this space up and running.. with the help of my husband who googled' how to create a raised floor', the room gradually started to come together at weekends and on days off. we needed to raise the floor as the space had previously been flooded and we couldn't risk the contents being flooded again . a window was then moved and a new glass door put in to let in more light... this was a project for my husband and his brother (neither are builders... but both love a challenge!) we also insulated the walls, and clad them in tongue and groove... at one stage it looked like we were creating a 1970's sauna! a little white wash on the wood brought us back to the present. the room is still not complete as we need to finish insulating the pitched roof... one day soon i am sure. but it is very workable so long as i keep it tidy!
the space above shows where i sit and design or sew. it overlooks the pebble courtyard section of our garden and a large bamboo plant which sways beautifully with the breeze. i feel so fortunate to have a designated space to work and in which i can store all my crafty bits and bobs. the girls use the space too and i love it when the three of us are in there together being busy and creating.
when i met caireen back in august at the festival of quilts she gave me a present which she thought would be perfect for my studio...
a photograph of a wee boat she found on her travels called 'little seamstress'... she framed it up for me ... i was so touched... i have now found the perfect spot for it on my little treasures shelf...i love it.. thank you again caireen!
and now my studio is tidy i need to finish the next 4 Morsbags for my giveaway which i shall draw on the last day of october.. so if you would still like to enter please email me or leave a comment.
i also need to tidy the house and remove all the clutter that is now in here from the studio!
have a happy evening!

Ginny! I love your space...so clean and comfy. I also adore how you decorated it. Well, and what can I say about the fabrics, you know I love those! I can see this area being a lovely inspiration to create, that's for sure!

Thanks so much for showing us your gorgeous studio - it is perfect! I love seeing others' creative spaces - but then I feel very envious that I have to make do with the dining room table!!

it sure is lovely. lots of light. looks like a very inspiring place to work. would you like to come organize my house? :)
i hope to have a creative workspace some day. i just set up my drawing table that i got for free in our basement. i was hoping to make a space for myself down there. the only problem is there is not a lot of natural light and it gets a little chilly. oh, lots of spiders, too. :)
some day...
that said, i love your neatly folded piles of fabric. so charming. reminds me of my friend's studio {the one who makes hand-made handbags}. i think i spotted some vintage fabrics that i'd love to get my hands on. good thing you live across the pond. :)

hmmmm Gins, what a lovely neat and tidy work space you have!!!!! You know how desperately jealous I am of your studio, a deep regret about the passing of our beautiful flour loft..... but one day my friend, I'll get my space. Ah well, for now its back to the kitchen table for me. (I do have fab cupboards for my stash though don't I?)

WOW, Ginny...that is a dream work studio! It's just so beautiful, inviting, light & bright. You & your hubby did a fantastic job creating a practical but fun place to be in and create in. Thank you for sharing! :o) ((HUGS))

lovely to see your space up and running! I have been dreaming about expanding mine, and keep visualising a wee extension into the garden! (don't know how it will be done, but dreaming on anyway) - as am fed up having to move things out the way all the time. Either that, or I need another de clutter/get rid of some furniture. have a great weekend! xx

Dear Ginny
I was browsing through a very beautiful book yesterday in a museum/craft shop. I thought to myself: "Ah, such a beautiful book, I wonder if I can get it secondhand?" (given that I am on the Utmost Challenge....). Anyway, I made a mental note of the book and walked away, hoping it might find it's way into my Christmas stocking.
I have just popped over to your blog and before I have chance to read this latest post, what do I see on your sidebar? THE book from yesterday!! It is YOUR book - I had no idea! Congratulations on such a beautiful creation! Now, I shall definitely be asking Santa for a copy....!
Happy days to you, and may the book be a GREAT SUCCESS.

Oh lovely Ginny, so light and airy. I consider myself very fortunate to have a dedicated sewing space too, albeit in the basement with no natural light. I can't complain as I mostly end up sewing late at night anyway!
