i awoke on the first day of november to hear the rain lashing down outside my window. it reminded me of this poem by Thomas Hood;
No sun - no moon!
No morn - no noon -
No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day.
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member -
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds!
-November!
so here we are in november which is often a very bleak month for me... a month of short days and long nights, cold fingers, cold toes, heavy rain and snuffly noses.
after chatting to georgia we decided that it would be a good month to look at the things in our lives that we are thankful for (and i think also it will help me to not dwell on the negatives as outlined in Thomas Hood's poem!)... so i have created a november 'gratitude' button
please feel free to take one and join us in a month of gratitude.. there are no rules .. post images or words... just take time to notice and appreciate all the good things in your lives this november.
let us know if you are joining us and i will link to you in my side bar
today i am thankful to have met such an amazingly kind veterinary nurse who has been caring for our Paws... who is on the mend and nearly back to his normal lively self.
wishing you a happy november day
x
p.s. edit to say that i don't agree with mr hood's 'no moon' in the poem as wasn't it amazing last night?
What a lovely idea, I shall try and join in.
PS. Your new book arrived this week - I love it - well done!

Hello Ginny!
Oh how exciting! I will definitely take your button and post about the things I am grateful for. Gratitude is one of my favourite experiences and pretty much most of my posts on both blogs are on this subject! So you have hit on something which is right up my street...
As for November - I love November - it is one of my favourite months. I think this may have something to do with our Wedding Anniversary being on 23rd, so once the calendar turns over to 1st November I seem to get all excited and full of enthusiasm. I think the enthusiasm harks back to the hours and days I spent beavering away on all aspects of Wedding-ness: sewing, creating, sourcing, designing.
Thank you again for a great idea which we can all take part in. I wasn't quite organised for "Things I am noticing..." so it is fab to join this process instead.
happy days

It does make the dreary days much better when I am remembering what I am thankful for. Your book looks great, but I don't think I can get it over here yet, can't wait till I can.

I would love to join in Ginny but cannot for the life of me remember how to add the button to my side bar. Can you help? x

A beautiful idea Ginny - especially when November can become dark and grim. I will try again this month though in my usual style it may be a bit haphazzard!
take care,

I think I am thankful for lovely souls like you who take the time to reveal the beauty that's going on inside their hearts. Thanks, sweet Ginny!

I'm thankful that I lost my first ever ebay bid for vintage buttons because I couldn't really afford them.......Still annoyed though... what was it? Oh yes November! But tomorrow I will be thankful that I am spending the day with you...til then. xxx

beautiful photo for your button. i love the bokeh! and the berries are so festive. this will be fun. i'll get going on my button now.
i'm glad you had a caring vet for your cat. i like to think anyone in that business is caring and love animals and that is why they do what they do. but i guess it could be like people doctors where you get a dud every once in a while.
well, right now, i'm glad to be home from work and smell dinner cooking {that the huz is making -- what a guy!}. that's what i'm grateful for. :)
watching the mail anxiously every day...

This is a lovely idea you had Ginny & Georgia! And I like the button you've created Ginny. Expressing gratitude is a powerful thing. While I can't join in on this fun event daily, I'll counting my lucky stars all the same. I am thankful for wonderful, creative and supportive family and friends. :o)

What a cheerful idea...I was just lamenting the greyness outside in my latest blog entry! I like the poem - it is kind of funny but you are right about the moon - it has been rather splendid! xxx

I've joined in and already posted in my blog. This was such a nice idea, actually, the more I thought about reasons to be thankful, the more things came to mind.

Ooh, how exciting! I've just got the news from Simone's blog. I shall definitely take the button and join in when I can. I am returning to work on Monday, after 5 weeks certificated leave! I just know I won't have so much time for blogging. It's an endless list of things to be thankful for. It's an interesting poem. To be quite honest I'm not much of a November person either. x

It is so important to stop and think and be aware.. and not to take things for granted!
I wholeheartedly embrace your sentiments Ginny and would love to join in passing on the message. I have so much to be thankful for..I don't know where to begin.
But I would like to thank you for your lovely messages of support for the fair... they were warmly received and appreciated.
Thank you.
