Just coming up for a year ago we were invited to look at an allotment (half) plot that had become available nearby. Half of it was very overgrown and the other half had been tended only a little in the past 3 years by 3 different tenants. The original plot holder, a hippy vegetarian guy known as 'Polly' had become ill and then sadly died but had gardened right till the end on his beloved plot. Everyone spoke with affection for him...even though the plot needed a lot of work it just felt right and we said yes please, we would like to take it on.
We have had our first year and are slowly reclaiming parts of it, gradually removing old weed suppressant that is disintegrating... it is a slow job.
We are very lucky that the plot has an apple tree and lots of currant bushes and also some rhubarb. There is a small pond which need some repair but it did had frogs in last year!
This picture was taken on the day we took the plot on. We are looking forward to our second year.
Hello,
I was thinking of you just the other week as I drove through Hartley Wintney on the way to Farnham for Unravel and wondering how you were, Hope you and the family are all well.
Enjoy your allotment, I have fond memories of mine especially the redcurrants and rhubarb.
xx
